ARLINGTON, VA — We are very glad to announce that Yale University Library has purchased the first copy of our limited edition artist book, The Amichai Windows.
“The work is quite stunning and we are delighted to add it to our Yale Library collection,” said Nanette Stahl, the Joseph and Ceil Mazer Librarian for Judaic Studies. “It will be housed in the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library.”
Yale is planning on hosting an exhibition and program in the fall.
The Beinecke is where Amichai’s papers are housed, so it will be extra special to have our book there, next to some of his original poems, speeches, and correspondence. In fact, I went up to the Beinecke to do research for this artist book years ago when I was first starting out. Here are a few of my images from the archives of Amichai’s papers and the Beinecke itself.
We’ll post more details as soon as we know about a specific date, program, etc

The Amichai Windows. By Rick Black, translator and book artist. Turtle Light Press, 2017.
Limited edition artist book of 18 poems by the late Israeli poet, Yehuda Amichai, in which windows are a theme. Each poem is wrapped and folded in an individual, handmade paper triptych and collected in an enclosure resembling a Jerusalem window. The book incorporates replicas of some of Amichai’s original, handwritten poems found among his papers at the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library of Yale University. Images of Jewish history and life have been culled from archives around the world. The poems are translated into English by Rick Black.
