Jewish Diaspora
Each of these moving note cards conveys the pathos and humor of Jewish life in the Diaspora and Israel. As Shalom Aleichem used to say, “God, I know we are your chosen people, but couldn’t you choose somebody else for a change?”
Depicted in these note cards by artist Bill Giacalone are images of the Holocaust and scenes from east European Jewish life. Bill knows first-hand what tragedy is, having been one of the first U.S. servicemen to witness the destruction wrought at Nagasaki and afterwards volunteering in the Palmach to fight for a Jewish homeland.
Turtle Light Press has converted the original, large paintings into a series of five note cards, including De Rebbe Shluft, the Warsaw Ghetto, a Talmudic study session, reclaiming the Temple and a Hasidic dance.
