Japanese Sumi-e Nature

Sumi-e is a graceful, contemplative form of Asian ink painting practiced for more than a 1,000 years. It often conveys the essence or spirit of a scene in the fewest number of strokes.

Artist Rick Black works in the traditional format, painting only in black ink on various types of Japanese paper. He uses a specially hand-carved seal called a chop to sign and stamp his name in red.
