Still Life
Still life paintings usually offer a realistic treatment of their subject. But in these watercolor paintings, artist David Black has combined a realistic study of subject matter with his own unique exploration of form.
Many have remarked that David’s style is reminiscent of the work of Italian artist Giorgio Morandi, who specialized in geometric still lifes of bottles and jars. Others say his work resembles that of Henri Matisse. In either case, he has moved past content to an exploration of pure form.
Turtle Light Press has converted the original watercolor paintings into a series of five prints and note cards, including ceramic pitchers, a pair of pink and red roses, sunflowers, red flowers in a pitcher, and a vase with flowers.
