Emma Cortellessa, Design Assistant

A senior this fall at Moore College of Art & Design in Philadelphia, Emma is an aspiring illustrator and designer. She hopes to pursue a career in book design and children’s illustration. She believes that picture books are what inspired her passion for art and writing at an early age.

From Norristown, Pennsylvania, Emma is working towards her B.F.A. in Illustration. Drawn to Moore College’s incredible faculty and small student population, Emma has served on the publishing committee for student government, works as a peer tutor, and proudly represents her school as a student ambassador. In 2016, Emma earned a spot in the Visionary Women’s Honors Program, where she began to rediscover her love for literature.

“I like the personable aspect of small presses like TLP where you get to know everyone and work directly with them,” she said. “As a summer intern, I already worked on e-book designs and wrote a blog post on haiga, a form that combines haiku and visual imagery.”

In fact, Emma did so well as an intern for TLP that we have hired her to work part-time during her senior year to do more design and social media. Below is one of her colorful, whimsical illustrations.
