Our company, Turtle Light Press, was founded by Rick Black, a former reporter in the Jerusalem bureau of The New York Times, in 2005. By chance, he discovered the art of beautifully crafted, handmade books one day at the Center for Book Arts in New York City. As he browsed informally at the center’s Vandercook proof printers and book presses, he decided that he wanted to learn how to make handmade books himself, thus combining his love of words and images with a longtime desire to work with his hands.
What began as a love affair of handmade books has now turned into a successful artistic venture, creating limited editions of books, handmade and trade poetry titles and artistic photographs of Arlington VA and Falls Church VA as well as other Washington DC places. These images are available in a variety of formats, including prints, web page images, books, and notecards.
At Turtle Light Press, we take our time and use the very best materials to create unique books that you will treasure for a lifetime. It is always our first priority to combine the aesthetically appealing with the best in handmade craftsmanship to produce the finest in high quality art pieces. These unique pieces are for collectors, businesses and individuals to treasure and enjoy. Our work is found in many public and private collections.
